Case Study: Martin

Things were not looking up when Martin was made redundant after working in the City for 28 years.

Martin struggled to find employment for over a year as he was also seeking to change direction into construction. He had already obtained his CSCS card at Greenwich Local Labour and Business (GLLaB) but then he was told about the Personal Best programme and decided to join.

The thought of meeting new people didn’t faze him, having previously worked for big organisations. On the course, Martin realised “the importance that volunteers hold in relation to events and how the volunteer’s participation can enhance and also contribute towards a positive outcome for the event.”

Martin attended the course at Greenwich Community College who works in partnership with GLLaB to deliver the Personal Best programme.

“…it helped me achieve employment, and I would recommend it as a way forward for people looking for a new direction…”

Martin’s proudest moment is gaining employment with GLLaB as the Personal Best Administrator, working alongside the Personal Best adviser for Greenwich.

“…I feel that if you take on the course with a positive attitude and approach it constructively, then you can achieve a great deal of self confidence and self worth…”
