Personal Best graduate carries Olympic Torch

The Olympic Torch Relay is just one example of the exciting events Personal Best programme participants can volunteer for. The relay celebrates the Games and brings their spirit to each country visited by the Olympic Torch; particularly significant for London as it prepares to host the Games in 2012.

Lit in Olympia, Greece, the torch made an international journey before arriving in London on 6th April. Torch bearers were selected by ballot, and included celebrities and some of Britain’s top athletes. Included in the line-up was none other than Personal Best graduate and Newham resident - Jesa Modhawadia.

Jesa was chosen to carry the Olympic Flame over Tower Bridge for 250 metres before joining other Personal Best Advisers and volunteers to steward the event for the rest of the day.

"It’s indescribable the pride I felt representing my country, like winning a gold medal. All my family came to watch me. Before I joined Personal Best I would not have had the confidence to be a volunteer"
Jesa Modhawadia, graduate.
